Reed Campaign blasts Bachmann's Superbowl of Spin

Maureen Reed's Congressional Campaign criticized Michele Bachmann for staging another publicity stunt to protect the profits of her political donors from the health care industry rather than offering any substantive solution for health care reform. Michele Bachmann held her "Superbowl of Spin" in Washington today to spread her outlandish claims and partisan attacks, yet the Congresswoman has to date not yet offered any proposal to solve the problem of extending health care coverage to 47 million uninsured Americans.

"Bachmann claims her rally is to remind Congress of the town hall meetings over the summer, but those meetings were orchestrated by insurance companies opposed to meaningful reform from the start. One insurance company in particular was caught urging employees to attend tea parties and has already spent $3.5 million this year lobbying Congress," said Jason Isaacson, Maureen Reed's Campaign Manager. "Michele Bachmann shouldn't be defending her political contributors who have reaped billion dollar profits last quarter - she should be focused on helping the hard working families and small businesses of Minnesota's sixth district that need health care reform now."

Bachmann has received over $206,900 in campaign contributions from health care interests in her career. Bachmann continues to defend her insurance donors by attacking reform without proposing a comprehensive approach that would deliver quality care that is affordable and covers everyone, especially children. In addition, Bachmann is silent on how to reform Medicare.

"With skyrocketing costs that are felt throughout the economy and 47 million Americans that are uninsured, we need real reform," said Isaacson. "When Maureen Reed is elected, she will use her decades of experience in heath care to make sure waste is cut, everyone is covered and quality of care is maintained. In America, we can do better and, with Maureen Reed, we will."

Background:

UnitedHealth hotline 'urges employees to attend tea parties.'

"One of the country's largest health insurers, Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group, is enlisting its employees in its campaign about health care reform. According to Talking Points Memo, the company's advocacy hotline is helping employees write notes to members of Congress and, in least one case, a hotline operator encouraged a caller to attend tea parties."
