As Insurance Companies Say They will Deny Coverage for Kids, Reed Asks Bachmann and Clark to Join her in Fighting for Our Children

Yesterday, the New York Times published a troubling article that revealed some insurance companies claim the new health care law does not require them to cover children who have pre-existing conditions until 2014. Because Maureen Reed believes the health of our children should be a top priority of all elected officials, she calls on Michele Bachmann and Tarryl Clark to join her in demanding that insurance companies cover all children.

"All of our children must be covered immediately, no excuses. As a doctor I have seen the damage caused by the lack of insurance and believe that children's health is too important to be sacrificed to cynical legal and political positioning," said Maureen Reed, Democratic Congressional Candidate (MN-06). "I ask Michele Bachmann and Tarryl Clark to join me in calling on insurance companies to cover every child in this country, especially those with pre-existing conditions who need it most."

Recently, Michele Bachmann introduced a bill to repeal the health care reform law, which gives the appearance that Bachmann supports the ability of insurance companies to deny health care coverage to children due to pre-existing conditions. It is imperative that Michele Bachmann clarify whose side she supports - our kids or the insurance industry.

Maureen Reed is the only candidate in the race to call for covering all kids. Reed is also the only candidate who has publicly supported a public option that competes with insurance companies and includes measures to lower costs. She believes that Democrats, Republicans, and Independents need to work together to ensure we continue health care reform, end corporate abuses, rein in costs and cover our children.
